Bamboo consumes a lot of water. Might not be ecologically sustainable. Cactus is probably better suited for Chennai.

Hai dont feel bad but

do make sure ur house able to take load (Weight) … Specially during earth quake … i m from gujarat and during 2000 quake quite a few building having garden / swimming pool on top had bad situation so just take care.
