Going Live on Radio. The ChennaiLive 104.8 Experience

ChennaiLive 104.8 radio station invited me and Murugavel Janakiram, CEO of BharathMatrimony, for their breakfast show discussion on Web 2.0, this morning. We were on air from 8:30 am till 10:00 am.

In their own words, the two month old ChennaiLive is a “talk station that aims at delivering quality content via intelligent discussion and debate.”. Not sure about the intelligent part but this morning, we sure had good fun and an interesting experience going LIVE on air.

The first few minutes were a bit rusty but quickly, got into the groove. Didn’t realize that we were live on air for over 1.5 hours.

That’s Bhavna, the presenter, with fancy schmancy gadgets. Listening to her, you’d hardly realize that she is just two weeks into her radio gig. Her MC experience certainly came in handy.
BTW, Sharanya, the producer of the show, tells me that only radio stations that plays music has RJs (radio jockeys) while Talk Stations has ‘Presenters’.

And oh, someday I’ll set up my own podcasting studio that’s gonna look like this.

That’s Muruga, CEO of BharathMatrimony. We’ve become good conference buddies having been co-speakers at many Internet related events. During the show, we both made a good team, complementing each other’s opinions.

Bhavna confessed being a tech greenhorn but she sure did quite a bit of homework for the show. Here, she’s seen shuffling through her research.

That’s Sharanya on the left, the producer of the morning breakfast show, Satish Rajamani, the head of programming, Bhavna, the presenter and moi. Check out the lighting behind.

We don’t have a radio at home. So, my Dad turned on our car radio full blast so my folks can hear it from home. My little daughter apparently would shout into the car radio hoping that I would hear her! Ah, the innocence.

My wife, who can be a tough judge, gave a thumbs up sign. Received over a dozen emails from friends and listeners, with mostly positive reviews. That’s a start.

One of my items on my ‘bucket list’ is to host a regular show on radio. Realized that I might get closer to that. Hosting a live show isn’t that difficult as one would’ve thought. One things certain… the experience has re-ignited my passion for podcasting and I’d love to dive deep into it once a few professional commitments are done.

Hi kiru how r u? I am regular reader for ur blog. Just now i read ur july 2004 article. Here it is remind u..

July 28, 2004

Obama – America’s first black president?! – I was watching the Democratic National Convention live and there was one guy who really caught my attention-Barrack Obama. This lanky black chap’s eloqent speech got me glued to the tube for a full 15 minutes. No reading from paper…either it must’ve been a brilliant extempore or an exquisetly prepared speech. Eitherways, his delivery was superb. I’m impressed with this chap. When people say, he could be America’s first black president, I see myself agreeing to it.
