For those who can't make it, we trying our best to get Live Web Streaming done, so you can catch some of the happenings. Check back at www.PodWorks.in for instructions.
The IRC chatroom will be available. You can watch what folks at the event are discussing at http://www.PodWorks.in/chat . And yes, you can participate in the chatroom as well.
Tomorrow, June 9th, is going to be about Audio Podcasting and Sunday, June 10th, is going to be on Video Podcasting.
Press Conference is arranged on June 9th at 11:00 AM. The press coverage so far has been awesome. Kartik Subramanian from Hindu had a fantastic writeup on Page 2. The rest of the publications that has covered the events are Rediff, BudinessWire, IndiaInfo, MyIris, Sify, IANS, Yahoo!, CyberMedia, NDTV Profit & The Telegraph.
The Police are creating a hassle with permission for the BeachHouse party. Apparently, there's been some ugly events that happened last month and the police have put a strong curb on any party happening on the ECR. We are looking at ironing things out and putting them in order.
Less than half day to go for the event. The team is pumped up. Should be fun.
Chinmayi has helped compose a signature tune for PodWorks. For those who don't know, Chinmayi belongs to A.R.Rahman's team and has sung for Guru, Sivaji and numerous tamil movies. She is also a TV host for Vijay TV and a Radio Jockey for Aaha FM.
I love the melodious tune, especially the flute rendition towards the middle. The music starts to grow on you over time, much like the Airtel tune by ARR. Listen to it..
It's shot by Dinesh from IndiaInteracts.com and also a member of the organizing team. We shot this at the Cafe Coffee Day inside IIT Madras which has become the team's home base.
Do You Know a Nice Beach House on ECR for a Party?
We are looking for a nice private beach house on ECR in Chennai, big enough to house 75 folks. This is for the PodWorks party that will take place on the night of June 9th, the first day of the podcasting event.
For those who don't know yet, PodWorks is India's biggest podcast event attracting the best minds on new media.
ECR (East Coast Road) has some fantastic beach houses but they are like hidden jewels, difficult to find. The best ones are never publicised and are only given out on personal references.
The Beach House must contain swimming pool, a few rooms and preferably a big lawn. Most folks will also be crashing out for the night. The party will have alcohol, music but it will be a nice decent one. Nothing wild. We will take prior Police permissions (which is required by law) and keep things in order.
Do you know of a nice place? Can you check with a friend, your friend's friend for a lead? Even a small lead will be useful information. Any help is appreciated. Please call me at 98415 97744 or email me at Kiruba[@]Kiruba.com.
In exactly a month from now, PodWorks, India's biggest podcasting event would be underway. It takes place at Chennai on June 9th & 10th. The event's website www.PodWorks.in is now online.
Registration for the event is now open. As with all the events we have conducted, this one will surely be a sell out. So, play safe and register early.
PodWorks will attract the best minds in podcasting and new media. It will be a great opportunity to network, share and learn new ideas & techniques.
PodWorks will have a strong workshop tilt. Hence the name (Podcasting Workshop) . The event will continue to follow the successful unconference model, but presenters are encouraged to demonstrate and not just talk. More of show'n'tell and less of powerpoint.
Last Sunday, the first organizers meet was held at IIT Madras and a surprisingly high number of volunteers turned up. 34 people. We have never had so many folks turn up for a first meeting. Not for BarCamp. Not for BlogCamp. Not for Proto. Not for MoMo. That's an encouraging start and PodWorks might well one of the best events. Check out more photos on Chinmayi's blog.
There's a strong emphasis on good content. And honestly, good content is hard to come by for podcasting. Afterall, there's less than a dozen known podcasters in India. The challenge will be to invite some of the best minds to conduct workshop and that's the #1 focus of the organizing team. Just take a look at the list of topics. Thankfully, we have some of the best media professionals from TV & Radio and many have shown an enthusiastic response.
We've had good support. Two sponsors already signed up. Yahoo! India will be the 'Online Sponsor' and IndiaInteracts.com will be the 'Video Sponsor'. More sponsorship slots open and its just a matter of time before they fill up.
It's going to be a good event. The two days of sessions will be live webcast and all the sessions will be recorded. Hey, this is a podcasting event, right?! It would be a good idea for you to sign up to the mailing list http://groups.yahoo.com/group/podworks and subscribe to the blog feed. These are good ways to get updated on the event's progress.
Call for Volunteers for India's Biggest Podcasting Event
PodWorks will be India's biggest event focusing on audio & video podcasting. The event is scheduled for June 9th & 10th. The event's name has been changed to 'PodWorks' to reflect the focus on a more hands-on learning and not just talks. The event will continue to be on an unconference model but will have a more workshopish style and focus on learning by doing.
The first organizers meet will take place this Sunday at 3:00 pm at IIT Madras' Cafe Coffee Day. If you would like to join the organizing team, it would be great to have you over. You don't necessarily need to know podcasting but must be interested in learning podcasting and have a penchant for organizing events.
We have an enviable team of advisors from the broadcast medium who will also join us on Sunday. Alaphia Zoyab of NDTV, Sudhish Kamath & Kathik Subramanian of The Hindu, Chinmayi of Ahaa FM & Vijay TV, Nandini of RadioCity, Sharavathy of Headlines Today.
You'll be joining an already strong team that organized successful, sell-out events like BarCamp, BlogCamp, Proto.in & WikiCamp. If you are game, do land at IIT's Cafe Coffee Day on Sunday at 3:00 PM. If you need help getting there, you can call me at 98415 97744 or email Kiruba @ Kiruba.com
It'll be a fantastic opportunity to be part of a landmark event.
