Action my ‘Not-To-Do’ List
I consider my To-Do list important and equally important is my ‘Not -To-Do’ list.
I’ve been highly influenced by Derek Siver’s concept of ‘Hell Yeah or No’. I only want to do projects that speak to my heart and that I thoroughly enjoy. I no longer care for the rat race. Don’t get me wrong. I’m in the race for sure. But it is just with me. I just want to become a better version of myself while having fun, being happy and keeping folks around me happy.
An important aspect of making time to do the things I enjoy is to ensure I have the time for them. I can do this by saving time by not getting sucked into things that I either don’t enjoy or is not important. I want to do lesser things but do them well. I’m now focused on finishing the projects. I derive joy out of seeing my idea through to fruition.
Here is my ‘Not-To-Do List’. It’s a work in progress. It’s always evolving. I continuously keep tweaking the list.
- Don’t accept speaking invitations that are outside of my area of specialization. (Digital excellence www.Kiruba.Pro)
- Avoid YouTube binge-watching. I start watching a video with the right intention and before I know it, I’m down the rabbit hole and hours pass by. Need to be focused on purposeful usage of YouTube.
- Don’t check my emails, WhatsApp or social media in the morning. Save it up after 9 AM.
- Politely turn down meetings where people want to ‘pick my brain over coffee’.
- Avoid the habit of constantly checking my emails and Facebook feed randomly.
- Stop reading newspapers. I’ve long stopped watching TV.
- Stop trying to be perfect. Aim for small improvements.
- Stop worrying about things outside of my control. I’ll put my best effort into things under my control.
- I don’t have to please everyone. I’ll just be myself. If that doesn’t go well with others, so be it.
- Avoid procrastination. Make a start. However small or imperfect it is.
- Don’t eat sugary foods. Avoid junk food. Focus more on a healthy diet.
- Don’t do everything on my own. I must master the art of delegation.
- Avoid negative people. Unfriend them. Unfollow them on social media.
