Charles Lawrence: Wine Specialist, MBA in Wines

July 23, 2012 By Kiruba Leave a Comment

Having grown up in Northwest Florida and Wyoming, then pursing an MS in Social Science Education, Charles Lawrence’s road to wine hasn’t been as direct as some. However, in 2006 he decided to pursue his passion, thus embarking on his own, continuing journey of vinous discovery. Since then, Charles has attained WSET certification, operated Vendimia Wine Bar in Hakuba Japan, worked as a wine consultant for hotels/restaurants in Japan and Thailand, spent a harvest in California’s Russian River Valley at Porter Creek Vineyards, and is now enrolled in the Bordeaux Ecole du Management Wine MBA. This is the only college that has an MBA in Wines. After nearly 12 years in Japan, Charles is off to Bangkok where he will be working with wine.

Akshaya Patra : Feeding 1.2 Million Kids

February 12, 2011 By Kiruba Shankar Leave a Comment

Akshaya Patra’s mission is eradicate poverty through education.

Close to 13.5 million underprivileged children in India are out of school and into child labour in order to earn a single meal in a day. (Source:www.worldbank.org.in)

The surest way to break out of the cycle of poverty is through education. Education can significantly improve the quality of life of a family for generations to come. When the basic needs of a child, such as food are not met, education often becomes the last priority.

Akshaya Patra is helping underprivileged children by providing them with a healthy, balanced meal that they would otherwise have to work for. The meal is an incentive for them to continue their education. It helps reduce the dropout rate to an enormous extent and increases classroom attendance.

Their mission is to reach out to 5 million children by 2020.
