The route from office to my home passes through Usman Road which has the largest number of upmarket textile stores and jewellery stores in Madras. All this means that , come Diwali time, the place gets chok-a-bloc with humanity so much so that my travel time nearly doubles …not to mention the chaos and the increased pollution. This is the time I fully appreciate the effort put on by a few people who volunteer to help the traffic police in directing the traffic.
