…because I don’t like my MP3 player the size of my palm. iPhone, I can understand. But such a big iPod? A definite no-no for me. Even with all the touch and WiFi jazz. Besides, now that iPhone’s prices have dropped to $399 (a huge discount of $200), I’d rather go with the iPhone.
On the contrary, the new nano is a lot better, though nothing beats the original square edged nano. I owned one until it got cleaned up in my washing machine along with my pants. Wonder how long it’ll take for the new Nano to get to India?

iPhone’s base may be 399$ but you have to get a contract with Cingular for 2 years. A conservative estimate of data plan around 60$/month means $399 + 60*24$.
iPod touch is an mp3 player. iPhone is a Phone + Data plan. ( unlocking is illegal )
I know that you won’t be impressed with iPhone because Apple didn’t call you to America for it’s introduction event where else Nokia called you to Singapore.
Hope to see lot of Nokia product reviews in your blog.

With the Cingular Contract in place for the Iphone (mentioned in the comment) the Ipod Touch is a great device for people who want all the features of Iphone but don’t want to get locked into the Cingular Contract. The Ipod touch has Wi-fi with browsing capability, and its not long before you can download a VoIP client to it and Woila…You can even make calls…
Having said, if Steve job decides to sell Unlocked iphone (which he will not as At&t pays Apple for every iphone sale), then go for an iphone rather than ipod touch.

I have already placed an order for Ipod touch and should have it in hand in a few days. Even though it lacks some great features like Camera, microphone (so no VoIP client will work), email browser, bluetooth etc, I still think its a cool device to have. Now the bummer would be if Mr. Job cuts the price of Ipod touch in a few weeks to boost sales during the holiday.
For people who are not fancy abt it, I think the Classic Ipod with 160gb drive for $349 is a Steal.
I think you are wrong in your analysis. IPOD touch’s main advantage compared to a classical IPOD player is it’s wifi capability. I think you would need an Iphone size screen for a pleasent surfing experience.
I am very positive that in future Apple would come with a plugin to use ‘touch’ as an ‘iphone’. So my guess is, since many in US cannot switch cellphone carriers due to their contracts, they would go with Itouch.

And moreover apple touch’s interface is based on Apple OS X while other ipods probably aren’t.I am just waiting for a competitive creative product which would support direct divx files downloaded from the net.I hate apple itunes! but otherwise apple products are great.
Is an unactivated iPhone a better PDA-PMP than the iTouch? What if Apple had just disabled the phone circuitry on an iPhone to create it and left everything else the same?

There is no discount of $200 as you claim. It is a downward revision in price which is to stay to expand the market for iPhone.
