Chamiers Road in Chennai is one of the busiest roads and part of an upmarket area. It’s where the Park Sheraton 5 star hotel and The Times of India office, amongst many others, are located. It’s the road that leads to Boat Club Area, the most expensivest residential real estate in Chennai.
Yet, even in such high profile road, I was shocked to see the sheer lack of safety and the danger that commuters are subjected to. These iron rods you see below, jut out like open knifes ready to stab anyone who may just accidently trip over.
These open rods you see stretch for nearly a kilometer on these busy roads and they have been out there for over a month now. And it doesn’t look like the construction will be finished anytime soon.
There’s a tragedy waiting to happen.

That is Singara Chennai for you !
You plant trees – Good cause.
You pave roads – Not your work.
Don’t even go near these. You’ll die/fall sick.
Chennai sucks – This is one small example…Heart of city…
kiruba,
Thanks for bringing this to attention. I suggest that you bring this to the attention of some english daily (preferably IE or DC) so that some remedial action happens.

Dear kiruba
At bangalore we had this tragedy on KH road about 12 years back. A camel was walking on the road and a motorist honked at it and the damn thing fell on the sharp edges of the divider spear and died a horrible death.
cheers
mohan!
its the same all over India. I’d suggest you forward this to some newspaper and bring the issue to a more diverse audience.
So death traps only merit mention if they’re in upmarket locales? I’m not saying you consciously implied that, but we all have that unconscious bias, deep within. It shocked you not simply because it was a death trap, but because it was a death trap on Chamiers Road. If it was in some middle-of-nowhere, neglected North Chennai area, would you have given it a second glance?
Hi Kiruba,
I saw the pictures you have taken. its really death trap.thanks for bringing our attention. publish it in some news paper. so that people will beaware of that death trap.
