Microsoft is pumping in $500 million to develop copy-proof CDs. If this succeeds, you no longer can copy music from a store-bought CD onto recordable CDs. Sony tried this with 6758.T proprietary technology but it was smartly overcome by scribbling a magic marker pen around the edges of the disc. Things may be different in Microsoft’s case. Microsoft’s upcoming operating system, code-named “Palladium,” is believed to have inbuilt features to prevent copying.
