Mata Amritanandamayi Devi’s Ashram in Chennai is located in the road next to my house. ‘Amma’ as she is now called, has been in Chennai for the last three days. There’s something unique about the profile of devotees. Most devotees seem to be in the upper middle class judging from the number of cars that line up the whole road. For a lady who became famous for her hugging, sure has tremendous following.

She used to be called ‘Mata’ but now she is being rebranded as ‘Amma’ in Chennai. There has been many placards and posters….heck, even a huge cutout. I’m suprised that the AIADMK members haven’t created any ruckus yet over the usage of the term ‘Amma.’
