Upbeat About The Landing

I’m really looking forward to watching the landing of the Discovery Shuttle. The landing is to be shown live on BBC and it’s a good thing that my office has a big plasma TV that has BBC running all time though.

I’ve been catching up on the latest news about the return journey and this particular info really caught my fancy.

“As it drops through the atmosphere, Discovery will effectively become an unpowered sailplane, and will slash its speed from nearly 29,000 kilometers per hour (18,000 mph) to about 350 kph (220 mph) when its rear wheels hit the tarmac.”
