August 22 is Madras Day
Madras Day is celebrated on August 22nd to commemorate the founding of the modern city of Madras by Francis Day, a representative of the British East India Company. He was granted 2 square kilometres of land to build a trading post in the year 1639, by the Nayak of Vandavasi. That makes modern Madras 376 years old.
