I attended my first “Apartment Association Meeting” yesterday. I recently moved into an apartment which houses 48 houses in multiple blocks and this is my first experience in attending such a meeting. The three hour meeting witnessed wide swings….. from good camaraderie, wily altercations, smart handling of queasy questions, blatant accusations to quick decision making. For me, as a newcomer , it was a nice opportunity to get introduced to fellow flat mates.
A sampling of the decisions that were taken…. Implementing the rain water harvesting facility ( which was made mandatory by the government in all apartments before august 31) , Increasing the monthly maintenance fees from Rs.350 to Rs.400, Annuling the pay hike request of the poojari ( yes, there’s a small temple inside ), Purchasing a new motorpump , Terminating water supply to a few houses whose tenants haven’t paid the arrear amount.
This meeting resembled a company’s general body meeting…. complete with appointing the President, Vice-President, Secretary Treasurer… and sticking to the pre-set agenda. An interesting experience.
