Chennai’s automatic taps

Chennai’s water shortage has its own positive spin offs. The ‘automatic tap’ is definitely one of them. In an effort to conserve water, almost all hotels in Chennai seem to have them. Just place your hand below the tap, and water automatically starts gushing out. I personally think its a great innovation. No contact means more hygiene. Notice the small glass bulb like structure to the right of the tap.. that’s the sensor. There’s another sensor diagonally opposite. When the hand interrupts the signal between the sensors, the tap opens up. Neat, huh?
