The Innocent Casualties of War
This has to be the most distressing picture I’ve seen off late. Page 16 in Today’s Hindu carries a photo of a dead 10-day-infant still in the grasp of its dead mother’s hands, crushed beneath rubble of a bombed building in Beirut. Cause: An Israeli air raid.
It’s a very powerful picture. Unfortunately, the online story does not carry the image. Maybe the Internet editor decided not to traumatize Hindu’s online readers.
You keep looking at the infant and wonder what did it do to deserve this. The longer you look, the deeper you begin to resent the people who began this.
I’ve come to hate war. Of any kind. Deeply.
